If you walk on past the Parish Church and go straight on down the steps, you will come to the start of one of the most beautiful aspects of Pietrelcina. Often, although you can view beautiful countryside, it is sometimes difficult to find a way to enjoy it easily. Here you can; without getting covered in mud, being lost in dense grass, being squeezed to the side of the road by passing cars or any such thing.
Watch this video which follows the full walk from the Town of Pietrelcina, where St. Padre Pio was born, to the place in the countryside, called Piana Romana where St. Pio first received the invisible stigmata. It is four kilometers away from the town and it is where he and his family had a small plot of land. They used to say the rosary while they walked there and it is now called ‘The Rosary Walk’.
Unfortunately, many visitors go to see the town but never manage to see what is beyond it – here is a sneak preview!
